Opening Keynote: Kepler Concordia and the Future of Music
What if you could answer a 400-year-old burning scientific question just by playing a musical instrument? What if playing this instrument helped launch a new economy of music and art in society? Kelly Snook will discuss her new project, Concordia, which allows you to play solar systems like musical instruments. You are immersed in the geometric world of Johannes Kepler, flying  through space as you explore and play the Music of the Spheres. We are entering into a new era of music as a tool for scientific exploration and discovery, which is a return to the past when music was part of the Quadrivium.

A New Age of Publishing?
In todays’s day and age many artists feel uncomfortable signing away all their rights to publishers, labels or others - and they don’t have to anymore. The digital revolution has brought up many different models, giving artists total control of their rights and art. But which options are out there and what does this mean for the Publishing Industry? Will it be solely reliant on their already existing back catalogue or evolve together with the artists into a new age Publishing?

Mindfulness in the Digital Age
This world is changing as never before. The ongoing evolution of digitalization is fundamentally altering the way humans work and relate, on a personal level as well as professionally. In all this, the biggest trend Mounira & Angel see is that of human connection and heart wisdom; the ability to think and act clearly with integrity, the skills of harnessing cognitive and emotional intelligence, and the capacity to adapt and evolve along with the times and the challenges that we are facing to create purpose-driven and sustainable solutions.

Labels of Tomorrow - How Technology is Changing the Music Industry Forever
In the last years, the role of a Label has significantly changed: Everything a label has traditionally offered can be done from a DIY artist's laptop... or can it?
2018 is a time when the traditional value offering of labels is not as clear-cut as it used to be. So which artists still need a label, what can they offer and how do the alternatives work? The Panel takes a look at the current state of labels in the music industry and explores how labels need to change to stay relevant in the future.

Let´s pop the bubble!

The State of the Art: Cutting Edge Music Marketing in 2018
In this highly-anticipated session, Steve Mayall of the leading music industry research, consultancy and news agency Music Ally will present a white paper - exclusively created for Most Wanted:Music - about a huge growth area in the music business: smart and immersive music. It’ll explain how forthcoming AI, machine learning and voice assistants, AR, VR and immersive environments can and should form part of the music marketing mix.

The session will explain the most interesting and innovative smart and immersive music campaigns of the past year, and discuss the most pressing questions: what will the role of smart speakers and voice assistants like Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa be in music discovery? How effective are immersive technologies like AR & VR in music marketing? Are they available only to large acts or are there ways smaller artists can offer smart and immersive experiences to fans? And which are some of the leading platforms and case studies for artists of all sizes?  In this essential session, these questions - and more - will be answered.

You can download the white paper here with the Code that will be provided during the panel.

All conference attendees also get a copy sent via the recap newsletter the day after the conference.

Touch the Music: Enhancing Future Digital Musical Devices through Haptic Feedback
Vibrotactile sensation and force feedback, known collectively as haptic cues, are  an important aspect of music playing as well as music listening, but still not fully exploited in the design of new digital instruments and interfaces. While current designs usually offer touch-mediated interaction, they fall short of providing a natural physical experience to the performer and listener alike as they generally lack meaningful haptic cues.
In our recently published book Musical Haptics we bring together for the first time a number of multidisciplinary perspectives on the role of haptic interaction in music performance and experience, from touch biomechanics to multisensory perception to haptic technology and design. We argue that establishing a rich haptic channel in musical interfaces will enhance user experience and performance, improve accessibility for disabled persons, and provide an effective means for musical tuition and guidance.

Who's Got Talent: (Wo)Man Or Machine?
Music is art. Art is unique. Machines can't do that... or at least, that's what some people say.

Machines learn exponentially fast. They can be creative in their own way. That's what the others say.

In a controversial conversation this session will answer some provocative questions:

• Is there promise in machines creating music? What is it? What opportunities await?
• What's wrong with machines creating music? Where is the void, and which questions remain unanswered?
• What does an algorithm need to be creative? Can it fundamentally change our understanding of music?

The last question goes to the audience too - they'll be asked to generate their ideal hypothetical music machine: the perfect man-machine collaboration.

Fuck AI - How to rescue creativity with love and data

Many rockstars have mental problems. How to make and love music with immersive media
Virtual Reality, 360º video, and spatial audio has the opportunity to become the next big revolution in how we consume music. The technology already exists to experience live concerts in VR as if we were physically there - and soon, it could become a widely-adopted new way of interacting with music. In this wide-ranging session, Tim Rittmann and Muki Kulhan will talk about the role of VR and other immersive media - and what kind of impact it will have on how we experience music in the near future.

This session is for creatives, too: how do you make music for non-linear, 360º experiences? You’ll be introduced to two VR music creation and arrangement tools, with live performances on stage, so you can decide if VR audio is a gimmick or a highly valuable new creative tool. You’ll also be able to check out spatial audio for yourself, and there’ll be a closing panel discussion where experts explain realistic use cases of VR and spatial audio in the music industry, and how you can get started with it.

Live demos on stage
The PS4 application Tracklab by Little Chicken will demonstrate that virtually everything is possible when interacting with music in VR.

Decochon will team up with Berlin-based musician, ℌEXOℜℭℑSMOS (born Moisés Horta Valenzuela) to create music in their Sandbox Instrument, MuX. They'll then explore the philosophy of creating music with these instruments and the power of building modular instruments in virtual space.

Robot Koch and Mickael Le Goff present: Sphere
Award-winning German composer Robot Koch and visual artist Mickael Le Goff will be talking about their new immersive audio-visual live show SPHERE. Their incredible AV show was designed especially for planetariums and takes the audience on a trip through space and time, oscillating between dark, synth-driven science-fiction moments and blissful suspension, carried by lush string arrangements.

The immersive full-dome show features custom-made projection visuals and music composed specifically for a 3D sound environment.

The world premiere of Sphere at Berlin's Zeiss Planetarium earlier this year quickly sold out, and a 2nd show had to be added due to the high ticket requests - so don't miss this!

Women in Music - Vom Gendergap zur Community presented by RockCity Hamburg und Most Wanted: Music

The Musical Brain
Your brain-waves can be turned into music, and it’s amazing. OK, that’s a bit simplistic – here’s the bigger picture: physiological processes in the brain create potential fluctuations that detectors on the head can pick up via electroencephalography (EEG). They can then be algorithmically identified so that strings of brain activities – your thoughts – can become different musical notes! And with a controlled flow of thoughts, your own brain becomes a composer. And then this creates a feedback loop – listening to the music creates new thoughts, which creates new music… come and listen for yourself!

Music Pool Community Night: The Management Hypothetical
Artists and managers face tough business and creative decisions every single day. Do you take the opening slot? Is that sync fee good or not? What do you do?

APRA AMCOS and Music Pool Berlin present The Management Hypothetical panel to help you answer these questions.

Inspired by Geoffrey Robertson's "Hypotheticals" TV series in Australia, this will explore the decision-making process of an imagined artist's career with the help from a panel of expert managers.

Through a series of 'what if' scenarios, we'll examine how a manager engages with an artist: from the point of discovery, through to sourcing and securing deals  across the industry, managing an artist’s expectations and maintaining their well-being throughout their career.

In case you hadn't guessed: this is an essential panel for anyone who works in, or hopes to work in, artist management.
